The 5 most beautiful aerial shots to achieve with a DJI Mini

Lightweight, compact, capable of slipping into any backpack, the DJI Mini 4 Pro fits in the palm of the hand. And yet it captures breathtaking aerial images. Its real strength lies as much in its portability as in its automated shooting modes: they allow even a complete beginner to take shots worthy of a film on their first flight. Here are the five most impressive aerial shots to master with this little drone, and our tips for achieving them.

1. The Reveal, the revelation
It’s the cinematic shot par excellence. Start by framing a foreground element in a tight shot – a tree, a rock, a silhouette – then slowly move back, gaining altitude to gradually reveal the grandiose landscape hidden behind. In a few seconds, the viewer goes from detail to immensity. The effect is as simple to achieve as it is spectacular to look at.
Recommended settings: favor a kinematic flight mode for slow and fluid movements, a moderate cadence in reverse, and rely on the obstacle sensors to move backwards with complete confidence.
2. Top-Down, the bird’s eye view
Point the camera ninety degrees toward the ground and get some height. Seen from above, the world becomes abstract: roads change into lines, trees into green dots, buildings into geometric shapes. This shot works particularly well over the sea, forests, lavender fields or urban areas, where natural and built patterns are fully revealed.
Creative tip: in a bird's eye view, the shadows create striking graphics. Film at the beginning or end of the day, when they are long and contrasting.

3. The Orbit, the rotation around a subject
Choose a central point — a castle, a lone tree, a person on top of a hill — and circle the drone around it at a constant distance. The subject remains in the center while the background scrolls. The result is hypnotic and terribly professional.
Most DJI Minis offer an automatic mode that executes this orbit perfectly: just select the subject on the screen, and the drone does the rest. Ideal when starting out.
4. The Dronie, the aerial selfie
Position yourself in front of the drone and launch the dedicated mode: the device moves backwards and rises simultaneously, keeping you in the center of the frame. You start in a close-up and end in a wide shot, the whole setting spread out around you. It's the ultimate selfie to mark a place, a moment or a group of friends - a shot that always has an effect on the networks.
5. Aerial hyperlapse
Here, the drone captures images at regular intervals while moving slowly along a defined path. The result is a spectacularly fluid aerial timelapse. A sunset, a fishing port at rising tide, traffic on a bridge: so many scenes that this shot transforms into memorable sequences.

Our advice for succeeding in each plan
- Fly in calm weather:wind is the enemy of fluidity
- Use a cinematic mode: it limits the speed for smoother movements
- Film in high resolution: even for an export in lower definition, you gain more cropping margin
- Anticipate the return: always keep a sufficient battery reserve to return to the take-off point
With a little practice, these five shots quickly become reflexes, and each outing an opportunity to compose your own animated postcard.
