Where to find vinyl records in Lyon: the guide

Lyon is a good city for vinyl, and the essentials fit in a pocket handkerchief: the Pentes de la Croix-Rousse concentrate half of the city's record stores, within a ten-minute walk of each other. Here is the map, district by district, with each one's specialties - because nothing is more discouraging than walking through the door of a metal store when you're looking for house music.

Know before you plan: DJ equipment cannot be shipped. He withdraws and goes in person to Lyon 3 (2 Impasse du Lutin, 69003 Lyon), by appointment. The excess of €200 is paid on site at the drop-off and returned to you on return.

Addresses, opening hours and specialties were noted on August 20, 2026 on the store websites. An independent business changes hours, goes on vacation or moves: make a call before crossing town.

The Slopes and the Presqu’île, the heart of the matter

Sofa Records, 7 rue d’Algérie (1st). Open since 2000, around ten thousand records, new and used, with a strong soul, jazz and world music tropism. Open Monday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. This is the first address to give to someone who is just starting out.

Dangerhouse, 3 rue Thimonnier (1st). An institution: the store has existed since 1989 and sells fifteen thousand vinyl records, new and used, oriented towards independent rock and punk.

Bigoût Records, 22-24 rue des Capucins (1st). Metal, punk, hardcore, noise, post-punk and cold wave. The record store to know if your evening leans on the dark side.

Central Unit, 12 rue René Leynaud (1st). Opened in 2020, entirely dedicated to electronic dance music, both new and used. With Onigiri, it’s the address for DJs.

Lucky Records, 6 quai de la Pêcherie (1st). Lyon branch of the Parisian record store, installed since November 2024: pop and collector's items.

Left Bank and Old Lyon

Onigiri Records, 40 rue Chevreul (7th). Vinyl only, house, techno and electro, supplemented by Japanese imports — city pop, jazz — that can't be found anywhere else in town. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Livity Records, 5 quai de Bondy (5th). Reggae, dub and Jamaican culture, on the banks of the Saône.

The Sounds of Music, 13 rue Ferrachat (5th). Black music in the broad sense: soul, funk, hip-hop. Open Tuesday to Saturday.

Two second-hand brands complete the picture: O’CD, which buys, sells and exchanges, has two stores in Lyon – 39 rue Paul Chenavard (1st) and 8 rue Victor Hugo (2nd) – open Monday to Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Hunting: fleas, and what we can really hope for there

Les Puces du Canal, 5 rue Eugène Pottier in Villeurbanne, open Thursday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Old records are explicitly part of the admitted goods. An honest clarification, however: out of the one hundred and seventy-nine store listings on the official site, only one record store is listed — Music Avenue, open on Sundays. We shop there, we don't stock up there.

As for associations, Emmaüs Parilly (8 avenue Marius Berliet, Vénissieux) mentions vinyls among its shelves, over three thousand square meters.

Meetings for fall 2026

Two dates to note now, both confirmed by the organizers.

  • Vintage Fashion Market, October 3 and 4, 2026 at La Sucrière: collectible vinyl has its place there, alongside clothing.
  • Common Goods, the record store market, Sunday October 4, 2026 — attention, fifth edition and new location: the Halles de la Martinière, and no longer Confluence.

In Villeurbanne, the Vinyl Pop-Up Market is held three to four times a year at La Rayonne, 7 rue Henri Legay, for three euros entry. And every spring, Record Store Day mobilizes the city's boutiques: twelve Lyon establishments participated in the edition of April 18, 2026.

And to listen to them?

A record bin is useless without two turntables. The pair of Technics SL-1210 MK2 is rented with its Ortofon Concorde cells already assembled - therefore without the slightest alignment adjustment to be made -, two flight cases, RCA cables and ground wires. Bring a mixing board: the turntables output at phono level and do not plug directly into a speaker. If you don't have one, the Pioneer XDJ-RX3 takes its place, with its two switchable phono inputs.

The sound equipment can be rented for a maximum of seven days, in a single copy, and collected in Lyon – it never leaves in a package. The prices on each sheet are authentic.
