Soundboks 4: pickup in Lyon 3, battery and return

With a Soundboks 4, everything happens in two appointments in Lyon 3: the pickup, where the speaker is handed over with a charged battery and checked with you, then the return to the same place. In between, from 1 to 7 days, depending on the dates chosen on the page for the Soundboks 4 speaker, which also shows the price, which depends on the duration.
This guide follows the process in order: booking, spare battery, appointment, ID, security deposit, transport, return. It also says what is not provided, to avoid surprises at pickup. The other speakers available to rent are gathered on the page for speaker rental in Lyon.
Book on the product page, for 1 to 7 days
Booking is done on the product page. You enter your dates; the possible duration runs from 1 to 7 days. The price depends on that duration: it is shown on the page, so you do not need to ask for it before booking.
A spare battery is available as an option, to be ticked when you book; its price is shown on the page. To know whether you need it, start from the figures announced by Soundboks: 40 hours at medium volume, 6 hours at full volume. The details are in our article on battery life and the spare battery. For a single evening at a reasonable volume, the battery supplied with the speaker is generally enough; for a weekend at high volume, the option is worth considering.
The appointment in Lyon 3, every day from 9 am to 8 pm
Pickup and return both take place in person in Lyon 3, and only there. There is no delivery and no shipping. Appointments take place every day, weekends included, from 9 am to 8 pm, and are booked in advance. The exact address is given to you when your booking is confirmed.
Wondering whether it is better to collect equipment or have it delivered, for another need? Our article delivery or pickup in Lyon: which to choose sets out the differences. For the Soundboks 4, the choice is simple: it is pickup.
ID and security deposit
ID to show at pickup: a copy is kept during the rental, then deleted 30 days after it ends. Remember to put it in your bag the day before the appointment.
The security deposit is paid on the spot, when the speaker is handed over. It is returned to you after a check on return, if the speaker is returned in good condition. Its amount is shown on the page. The simplest way to get it back without any discussion: bring the speaker back clean and complete, as the last section details.
What you receive, and what is not provided
You leave with the speaker, handed over with a charged battery. It is checked together at departure. Use that moment to find out how to switch it on and adjust the volume. For music, there are two ways: Bluetooth 5.0, by pairing your phone in its own Bluetooth settings (the Soundboks app controls the speaker, volume, equalizer and profiles, but it does not stream the music), or the 3.5 mm mini-jack input with a cable. The app also offers three preset sound profiles: Lounge for balanced listening, Stage for vocals and live, Dancefloor for the party.
A Shure SM58 microphone is available as an option and plugs straight into the speaker: €5 per microphone per rental, two at most, XLR cable supplied and microphone stand free of charge. However, Fox Rider does not rent out a complete sound system, a subwoofer, a speaker stand or lighting. Nothing else is listed beyond the speaker and its battery: if you need another cable or a charger, bring your own. If you have a power outlet nearby and are looking for two speakers rather than one, the pair RCF ART 912-A is the other option offered, mains-powered and without Bluetooth.
Carrying a 16.1 kg speaker
The Soundboks 4 weighs 16.1 kg and measures 66 × 43 × 32 cm (height × width × depth). Its handles are made of steel and its corners are silicone balls that absorb shocks, but a car boot remains the best way to move it: wedge it so it does not slide. On foot, a somewhat long trip is more comfortable with two people.
As there is no shipping, plan for the outbound and return trips, and choose your time slot accordingly: a speaker of this size does not slip into a bag. On site, keep in mind what the speaker can and cannot withstand: Soundboks states an IP65 coating on the electronics but specifies that it must not be submerged. The details are in the article on the IP rating, rain, the beach and the boat.
The return and the check
The return takes place at the same place, in Lyon 3, every day from 9 am to 8 pm, by appointment. Bring back the speaker with its battery, and the spare battery if you took it. If it has been exposed to sand or sea spray, wipe it with water and a cloth, as Soundboks recommends. Before leaving, do one last check: speaker, spare battery if you took it, cable and charger that belong to you, so as not to leave anything behind.
The speaker is checked together, as at departure. If it is in good condition, the security deposit is returned to you after this check. For an overview of Fox Rider’s sound range, the sound section brings together the speakers, the console and the turntables.
