Wedding photographer: how does the service work?

A wedding is planned months in advance, but the photography session itself only lasts a day. Between the initial request and the delivery of the images, several steps follow one another, and knowing them in advance avoids misunderstandings on the big day. Many couples have never hired a professional photographer before their own wedding.

This guide follows the process of a photoshoot, from the initial contact to receiving the photos, including the preparatory exchange and the day itself. It also answers a frequently asked question: how to add video or other options to the same request without creating multiple exchanges.

Request a quote online

It all starts with a quote request on /services. The process unfolds in five steps and offers a dedicated "Wedding" package, designed to meet the specific needs of this special day: photography, videography, editing, drone services, DJ, lighting, and prints. The couple describes their day in their own words: the date, the location(s), and what they want captured.

In return, he receives a handwritten quote tailored to his specific situation, rather than a standardized price. No payment is made online at this stage, and nothing is booked until the quote has been explicitly accepted. Services are available throughout France: travel is included in the price only within Lyon city limits, and is calculated on a case-by-case basis elsewhere. The flat rate and additional hourly charges are listed on /prestations: this is the page to consult for pricing. The wedding photography service is one of the options offered in this dedicated section, along with video and prints.

Finalize the details before the big day

Once the quote is accepted, the practical details of the day need to be finalized with the photographer by phone or in writing. These are the points to clarify so that nothing is decided last-minute once you arrive:

  • The schedule: preparations, ceremony, cocktail hour, entrance into the hall, first dance.
  • The venues: address for preparations, ceremony location, reception hall, possible route between the two.
  • The list of groups to be photographed: families, witnesses, friends, in specific configurations.
  • People not to be missed: grandparents, relatives who have come from afar, people who will be leaving early.

This written list prevents improvisation on the spot and serves as a guide for the photographer throughout the day. The more precise it is, the less the couple has to manage once the day gets underway, and the less risk there is of forgetting an important detail.

D-Day: What happens on site

The photographer follows the pre-approved schedule, while adapting to unforeseen circumstances: a hairdresser's delay, a ceremony that starts late, a sudden downpour. They remain discreet during intimate moments, such as the preparations or the exchange of vows, and become more directive for group photos, where time is of the essence. The goal is to cover the day without ever becoming a constraint on the schedule, neither for the bride and groom nor for the guests.

The couple doesn't need to organize anything on the spot: the list provided beforehand serves as a guide, and it's up to the photographer to bring it to life on location, adjusting the order of the groups or the duration of each stage if necessary. A good guideline: the couple should be able to enjoy their day without constantly wondering if a particular scene has been captured; that responsibility rests entirely with the photographer.

After the service: complimentary images and prints

Once the day is over, the delivery of the images remains: what this includes, in what format, and within what timeframe is agreed upon with the photographer and put in writing, rather than relying on industry practices. Each service also includes a set of complimentary prints, the size of which depends on the event and is confirmed in writing with your quote, without any checkboxes or requests required.

The couple can then complete this set with additional prints, film instax WIDE or classic photo prints, ordered online at /impression without creating an account, for a more complete album or to offer more to relatives present on that day.

Adding video or other options to the same quote

The wedding context doesn't require choosing between photography and videography: both can be discussed during the initial quote process, right from the first contact. A couple can therefore combine their photography services with a...wedding video service, with or without subsequent editing on/assemblyOr, aerial drone footage could be considered if the location is suitable, subject to authorization and feasibility, which is never guaranteed in advance. DJs, lighting, and additional prints are requested in the same way, all at once, with a single point of contact for the entire day.

Simply provide all the details when requesting a quote, or complete a request already sent: the photographer will adjust the quote accordingly, without starting from scratch and without multiplying the exchanges for each option.
