Rent equipment with complete peace of mind thanks to insurance

When we rent valuable audiovisual equipment (camera, drone, DJ decks), one question always comes up: what happens in the event of breakage or theft? Insurance is a subject often overlooked when booking, yet it is a key element to having a peaceful experience. Understanding the security deposit, what the insurance covers and your own personal guarantees saves you from many unpleasant surprises. Complete decryption to rent with confidence.

Rental equipment insurance: understanding breakage and theft coverage

The security deposit: how it works

The principle

The security deposit is a sum separate from the rental price: it protects the rental company against breakage, theft, loss and damage. For cameras and drones, it is charged when you place your order, then refunded in full within 5 working days from the receipt and inspection of the equipment. For DJ turntables and sound equipment, it is paid on site when the equipment is handed over, never online or in advance. Its amount is fixed per product — from €100 to €250 depending on the model — and it is shown on the product page before you even book.

When the security deposit is withheld

The rental company may charge or withhold all or part of the security deposit in the event of breakage, theft, loss or damage: shock, deep scratch, broken component, missing accessory (cable, memory card, battery) or equipment rendered non-functional. Conversely, traces of normal wear (micro-scratches, dust) are never affected: living rentals inevitably leave some innocuous marks.

Breakage insurance: the different levels

What the insurance covers

At Fox Rider, breakage and theft insurance is included in the rental price for cameras and drones, with nothing to arrange and nothing extra to pay. For DJ turntables and sound equipment, it is billed separately at €5 per day capped at €75, on a dedicated line of the quote and the invoice. It covers the usual accidental damage: a fall, an impact, or contact with water for non-waterproof equipment. In the event of a covered claim, the security deposit remains payable by you: it is the amount shown on the product page.

One single level, no option to take out

There is no paid option that reduces or removes the security deposit: the cover comes in a single level, and it cannot be bought out. Its amount is fixed, specific to each product, and you know it before you book — on the page for the DJI Mini 5 Pro, on those of our drones for rental as on that of the GoPro Hero 12. Nothing to take out, nothing to tick: what you see is what you pay.

Flight coverage

Classic conditions

The theft is covered under specific conditions: rapid filing of a complaint, proof that the equipment was kept in a locked place (locked vehicle, hotel room, locker) and declaration to the rental company as quickly as possible. Snatching in a public place is generally covered, while negligent theft – material left unattended – is not. Always refer to the exact terms of your rental agreement.

Precautions to take

Never leave equipment visible in a parked car. At a festival or while traveling, keep it on you or in a closed locker. Note the serial number, present on the contract, just in case. These simple reflexes protect you legally and considerably speed up the procedures in the event of a claim.

Your personal insurance can supplement

Home insurance

Many home insurance contracts include a civil liability clause that may cover borrowed or rented items. Check your contract or contact your insurer before renting. This additional coverage can reduce the portion remaining your responsibility in the event of a problem.

Bank card insurance

Some high-end credit cards include insurance on rented goods. Conditions vary between establishments, but they frequently cover theft and accidental breakage. Paying for your rental with the right card can automatically activate additional protection, at no additional cost.

Good reflexes to adopt

Before renting: read the coverage conditions and ask your questions if any point remains unclear. During rental: take care of the equipment, avoid unnecessary risks and secure it when you are not using it. In the event of a problem: notify the rental company immediately, do not attempt any repairs yourself and keep all items, even broken ones, to establish the report.
