What an aerial shot adds to a property video

A video tour answers “what is it like inside” very well. It never answers “where is it”. And for many buyers the second question is the deciding one: the distance to the road, the neighbour you cannot see from the living room, the real size of the plot, where the sun falls in the evening. No photo taken at eye level shows that. That is the job of the aerial shot.
Three shots that serve, and one that does not
- The top-down. The camera looks straight down: you read the plot like a plan — the house, the garden, the boundaries. It is the most useful image and the least often requested.
- The slow pull-back. You start on the property and move away: the house shrinks, the neighbourhood appears, you grasp where you are. One image answers three questions.
- The link shot. A gentle approach to the façade, to open the video and cut into the interior. It is the only genuinely decorative aerial shot, and it is useful for that.
- And the one that does not serve: the fast orbit around the house, the one you see everywhere. It is spectacular for three seconds and teaches nothing. Mostly it makes you dizzy.

What I never promise
The flight itself. It is the only part of a job I cannot guarantee will happen, and I would rather write that plainly than discover it with you on site. Feasibility depends on the place and on the permissions applying there that day; I check it before pricing and tell you plainly if it does not hold. On top of that come things no regulation governs: wind, rain, a neighbourhood event, an owner who changes their mind.

That is also why an aerial shot must never be the heart of a property video. It opens it, situates it, closes it. If the film only stands up thanks to that shot, it collapses on the day the flight is not possible — and that day comes. The permissions to sign describes what is prepared, and filming people with a drone what applies as soon as someone is in frame.
The hour matters more than the machine
A property photographed from above at noon is flat: the sun at its zenith kills the shadows, and without shadows there is no relief and no volume. The same property at the end of the day shows the garden, the height of the trees, the slope of the ground. That is why I ask for some latitude on timing when an aerial shot is planned: one hour’s shift changes the image more than any setting. And if the sky is low that day, better to postpone than fly for nothing.
The aerial shot is ticked in the request, along with the other options, and it is discussed before the quote. If you would rather fly it yourself, filming a property from the air covers the whole subject from the rental side.

ServicesWhy the lead time of an immersive tour is not promised
The shoot is the short part. What follows depends on the place, which is why I give a range with the quote, never a date on the phone before seeing it.
