Osmo Pocket 4P: what the form says in small letters

The Osmo Pocket 4P is a very good device, and we praise it. But three of its most selling arguments are only valid under certain conditions, and a tenant who discovers it on Saturday morning has lost his weekend. Here's what the technical sheet specifies in the fine print.
The D-Log 2 and the 17 diaphragms: wide-angle only
DJI announces 17 stops of dynamic range. That's right — in D-Log 2, on the wide-angle lens, and nowhere else. DroneDJ, who was able to handle the device before its release, writes that the D-Log 2 “only records on the wide-angle lens, capped at 4K60” (July 30, 2026, our translation).
Translated to filming: as soon as you switch to telephoto, you lose the log profile and the calibration latitude that goes with it. If your project is graded, frame at wide angle, or agree to mix two renderings in the same sequence — which is visible in editing.

Two lenses, and two sensors that are not equal
| Wide angle | Telephoto lens | |
|---|---|---|
| Sensor | 1 inch CMOS | 1/1.28 inch CMOS |
| Equivalent focal length | 20mm | 60mm |
| Opening | f/2.0 | f/1.8 |
| 4K slow motion | up to 240fps | up to 200fps |
| Sensitivity | 100–25600 (51200 in low light) | 50–12800 (25600) |
The second lens is not a zoom applied to the same image: it is another lens, in front of a smaller sensor. In low light, the gap is visible. And slow motion drops from 240 to 200 frames per second when you switch to TV: if slow motion is the heart of your shot, first check what focal length you are on.
A clarification of vocabulary, because the error is everywhere: DJI does not write anywhere "3x optical zoom" for this device. The official wording is “up to 12x zoom”, and the long lens is given for a 60mm equivalent. DroneDJ also notes that beyond 3×, “the image begins to disintegrate”, and that the transition between the two focal lengths is “a little abrupt” (July 30, 2026, our translation).
The photo is not the argument
The 4P photographs at 7680 × 4320, which DJI labels “approx. 37MP”. It is the same photo definition as the Osmo Pocket 4, without the P. What separates the two devices is the second lens and the dynamics in video, not the resolution of the photos. Choosing 4P thinking of taking better photos means paying for something else.
Sound: what is in the box, and what we will not claim
Our rental contains eleven items, all included in the price: the camera, the 1/4-inch threaded handle, the carrying pouch, the wrist strap, the USB-C cable, the 1 TB microSD card, the 25 W fast charger, the DJI Mic Mini 2 wireless microphone kit, the Osmo FrameTap, the Osmo mini tripod and the fill light. None of them is charged as an extra. Apart from shipping and photo prints, the only paid option on the product page is the external battery, at €2.
So the wireless microphone is in the box. What we still will not write is a pairing guide: the 4P spec sheet documents only its three built-in microphones, and no manufacturer document describes the link with a wireless mic. If your shoot depends entirely on a lavalier, ask us before booking — we will check on the very unit that goes into your parcel rather than answer from memory.

And this name, precisely
The product is called Osmo Pocket 4P . DJI never writes “Pro”: the corresponding address on his site returns a page not found. But if you saw "Pocket 4 Pro", you weren't dreaming - PolarPro markets a set of filters called "CINE Collection Filter Set for DJI Osmo Pocket 4 Pro" (Newsshooter, July 1, 2026). Some media and accessories manufacturers therefore call this product that; its manufacturer, no. When searching for an accessory, try both spellings.
What he does very well
To be honest in both directions: the three-axis mechanical gimbal, the 2-inch touch screen announced at 1,000 nits, the 103 GB of internal storage (you can film without forgetting the card), ActiveTrack 8.0 tracking, and a charge that returns to 80% in 18 minutes. All for 230 g and 159.5 mm long: it fits in a jacket pocket.
Latest security deposit: the device was released on July 30, 2026. No one – including us – has the necessary perspective to talk about its reliability over time, and no complete independent test was available at the time of writing. That's also what renting is for: three days with the device will teach you more than three hours of online videos.
